These good things are made according to old family recipes, using pure and natural ingredients such as wholewheat flour, salted butter, sugar, eggs, and fresh milk. These French delicacies are packaged in a very pretty tin box on which there is a fine reproduction of “La Ronde des Petites Bretonnes” (1888) by Paul Gauguin. Traou Mad is the name given not only to these whole butter biscuits but also to the biscuit-maker who has been making them in Pont-Aven since 1920. Pont-Aven is a small town in Brittany, famous for attracting many artists in the 19th century like Paul Gauguin, the Post-Impressionist artist. Gauguin (1848-1903) arrived in Pont-Aven in 1886 and painted “La Ronde des petites bretonnes” in 1888, a famous painting that the biscuit-maker used as his logo.
